CITC 1312 (formerly INFS 173) - Introduction to .NET Programming
3 Credit Hours
This course is a study of object-oriented programming through the use and practical application of the C# language. Topics include classes, objects, methods, GUI programming, graphics, databases, XML, Web pages and Internet.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand computer program design and the C# interactive development environment.
- Use C# tools to create a well-documented application based on client input or industry research.
- Produce programs that produce correct results and that are attractive, readable, and easy to maintain.
CITC 1310 - Programming I
The following topics will be covered in the modules listed below. Students should complete each module prior to moving to the next one.

- Module 10: Inheritance and Polymorphism

- Module 12: XML, Webpages and the Internet
Because this course material covers the C# programming language using Visual Studio, it is important for the student to have access to a computer which has Visual Studio on it. While we will use Visual Studio 2012 in this course, the newest edition of Visual Studio is also acceptable since the functionality is very similar.

- Your book may come bundled with the C#.NET Express software or Visual Studio. If not, you can download Visual Studio 2012 (which includes Visual C#) from https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/visual-studio-homepage-vs.aspx. Again, you can also use the newest edition of Visual Studio since the functionality is very similar.
- Your book may also include the student sample files for the Tutorials. If not, you can download them in a zipped format.

Participation, Assessments, & Grading
All exams will either be "take-home" projects, or, computer-based exams that may require you to take the exam at a designated location, or with an approved proctor. For more information, please contact your instructor.

Grade of Incomplete (I) - The mark of 'I' (incomplete) indicates that the student has not completed the requirements for a course during the semester for some unavoidable reason that is acceptable to his instructor. Students must have completed at least 75% of the course material before a request of a grade of Incomplete will be considered. This grade will not be given unless the instructor is reasonably sure that it is possible for the student to complete the requirements for the course during the subsequent semester and receive a grade of 'D' or better. If the 'I' is not completed by one week before the first day of final exams for the next semester, the 'I' will convert to an 'F'.

Since each assignment varies in topic, weekly emails will be sent to the student denoting any specific grading criteria or standards that must be met for that assignment. It is the student's responsibility to read these emails and be aware of any required components.
Students are expected to communicate with other students and their instructor by participating actively in all aspects of this course. This includes checking emails regularly (every 24-48 hours), staying up to date with discussion board postings and posting responses to any required discussion board topics for each module prior to the deadline.
All assignments must be submitted to the dropbox prior to the date and time deadline listed in the dropbox and on the calendar of assignments. Any assignment turned after the deadline will automatically be subject to a late penalty. Late assignments will lose 25 percent for each day or part of a day late (24 hours). The exceptions to this are if the student has a properly documented explanation for lateness (i.e., a doctor's note, police report). Assignments will not be accepted late due to a problem with your computer. Even though an overdue computer assignment may be late, all assignments should still be completed and turned in by the last regular day of class otherwise a course grade of "F" may be assigned.

1. Standards of Conduct:
- Students are required to adhere to the same professional, legal and ethical standards of conduct online as on campus. In addition, students should conform to generally accepted standards of "netiquette" while sending e-mail, posting comments to the discussion board, and while participating in other means of communicating online. Specifically, students should refrain from inappropriate and/or offensive language, comments and actions.
- In their academic activities, students are expected to maintain high standards of honesty and integrity. Academic dishonesty is prohibited.
Such conduct includes, but is not limited to:
- an attempt by one or more students to use unauthorized information in the taking of an exam
- to submit as one's own work, themes, reports, drawings, laboratory notes, computer programs, or other products prepared by another person,
- or to knowingly assist another student in obtaining or using unauthorized materials.
Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited.
Students guilty of academic misconduct, either directly or indirectly through participation or assistance, are subject to disciplinary action through the regular procedures of the student’s home institution. Refer to the student handbook provided by your home institution to review the student conduct policy.
In addition to other possible disciplinary sanctions that may be imposed, the instructor has the authority to assign an "F" or zero for an activity or to assign an "F" for the course.

- Participate in all aspects of the course
- Communicate with other students
- Learn how to navigate in Brightspace
- Keep abreast of course announcements
- Use the assigned course management (Brightspace) email address rather than a personal email address
- Address technical problems immediately:
- Observe course netiquette at all times.
Guidelines for Communications
- Always include a subject line.
- Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases.
- Use standard fonts.
- Do not send large attachments without permission.
- Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
- Respect the privacy of other class members
- Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion. Be a lurker then a discussant.
- Try to maintain threads by using the "Reply" button rather starting a new topic.
- Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other’s ideas.
- Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks.
- Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks.
- Be positive and constructive in group discussions.
- Respond in a thoughtful and timely manner.
