CITC 1311 (formerly CISP 2180) - Programming II
3 Credit Hours
This course is a continuation of CITC 1310 Programming I. It introduces the student to object oriented programming. Topics include class creation, methods, events, inheritance, objects and error
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- Use professional models such UML to design intermediate computing solutions.
- Develop modular algorithmic solutions for intermediate computing problems using object-oriented constructs.
- Explain object-oriented concepts such as inheritance, abstract classes, interfaces, polymorphism and encapsulation.
- Execute processes necessary to display knowledge of the software language statements required for developing and implementing typical business applications.
Because this is the second online course in Programming, it is important for the student to:
- Have completed the first programming course CITC 1310
- Work well independently
- Stay self motivated
- Chapter 1: Objects and Classes
- Chapter 2: Object-Oriented Thinking
- Chapter 3: Inheritance and Polymorphism
- Chapter 4: Exception Handling and Text I/O
- Chapter 5: Abstract Classes and Interfaces
- Chapter 6: Recursion
- Chapter 7: Lists, Stacks, Queues, and Priority Queues
- Chapter 8: Implementing Lists, Stacks, Queues, and Priority Queues
Prior to taking this course, students should have passed CITC 1310 Programming I:
- Log in regularly in the TNeCampus D2L account.
- Create a Revel account.
- Read all 8 chapters of the textbook in the Revel Environment.
- Engage in the 8 revel assigned chapters with exercise sets. Each chapter has graded exercise sets and programming projects.
- Use TextPad as a programming editor, email program,computer (general skills), and an Internet browser (IE, chrome or equivalent).
- Write 8 major Programming II Assignments.
- Write programming code extensively.
- Review the programming code in the 8 chapters of the textbook in the Revel Environment including the animation feature.
- Participate in the discussion board. Engage in the 8 graded discussions corresponding to the with 8 modules.
- Prepare for the 8 Tests by taking the 8 practice self tests.
- Take 8 Tests.

Computer assignments/tests may be turned in anytime up to and including the date due. There is one assignment/test per chapter. If a grade is not posted for an assignment for a given chapter, the student cannot take the test for that chapter. The student must submit an assignment to be able to take a test. Please read carefully points 1 and 2:
- Each time an assignment has to be resubmitted after it is was submitted the first time, the student loses 10 points automatically out of the total number of points. Thus if a student resubmits his/her assignment 5 times he/she automatically loses 50 points from the total number of points for a given assignment.
- Any assignment/test turned in after the due date will lose 50 points for every day late (24 hours) unless the student has a properly documented explanation for the lateness (i.e. doctor's note). Assignments will not be accepted late due to a problem with your computer or disk. Thus if you are late 2 days to submit an assignment/test you will be awarded a 0 on the assignment/test.

If a graded assessment item is not submitted on time, the instructor will deduct 50 points of the grade per late day. The student must get in touch with the teacher for a reason why he/she was late in order for the instructor not to deduct 50% late grade

1. Standards of Conduct:
- Students are required to adhere to the same professional, legal and ethical standards of conduct online as on campus. In addition, students should conform to generally accepted standards of "netiquette" while sending e-mail, posting comments to the discussion board, and while participating in other means of communicating online. Specifically, students should refrain from inappropriate and/or offensive language, comments and actions.
- In their academic activities, students are expected to maintain high standards of honesty and integrity. Academic dishonesty is prohibited.
Such conduct includes, but is not limited to:
- an attempt by one or more students to use unauthorized information in the taking of an exam
- to submit as one's own work, themes, reports, drawings, laboratory notes, computer programs, or other products prepared by another person,
- or to knowingly assist another student in obtaining or using unauthorized materials.
Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited.
Students guilty of academic misconduct, either directly or indirectly through participation or assistance, are subject to disciplinary action through the regular procedures of the student’s home institution. Refer to the student handbook provided by your home institution to review the student conduct policy.
In addition to other possible disciplinary sanctions that may be imposed, the instructor has the authority to assign an "F" or zero for an activity or to assign an "F" for the course.

- Keep abreast of course announcements
- Use the assigned course management (Brightspace) email address rather than a personal email address
- Address technical problems immediately:
- Observe course netiquette at all times.
Guidelines for Communications
- Always include a subject line.
- Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases.
- Use standard fonts.
- Do not send large attachments without permission.
- Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
- Respect the privacy of other class members
- Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion. Be a lurker then a discussant.
- Try to maintain threads by using the "Reply" button rather starting a new topic.
- Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other’s ideas.
- Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks.
- Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks.
- Be positive and constructive in group discussions.
- Respond in a thoughtful and timely manner.
