Teacher Education Program

Concentration: English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement
Tennessee State University
Credit Hours Required: 18

Program Description

Acquire the knowledge and skills you need to teach English as a Second Language in a K-12 setting.  Available at both the graduate and undergraduate level, this online program combines course work with a practicum/internship. Upon successful completion of the course work and practicum, candidates must meet testing requirements in place for professional licensure as outlined by the Tennessee Department of Education. This includes passing scores on the ESL Specialty Area of the PRAXIS II exam to earn the endorsement.

The courses that comprise the endorsement program are offered through a cooperative development and delivery model among TBR institutions. The model provides a platform for TBR institutions to share valuable intellectual resources which enrich program offerings.

As an online student, you gain access to highly-qualified faculty from both the campus where you are studying to earn your endorsement as well as other institutions across the TBR system. You gain exposure to a wide range of opinions, philosophies, perspectives and experiences that you might not otherwise obtain. The students in your classes are also from other institutions across the TBR system which further contributes to a unique online learning experience.

Who Should Apply?

The Additional Endorsements online program is designed to assist those certified teachers who are currently teaching outside their discipline/subject certification area in completing the certification required for their current teaching position. This program is also available to teachers who wish to add an additional endorsement.
