Nursing Post Master's Certificate
This certificate program is designed to prepare students to meet established nurse educator competencies in one of five advanced clinical-focused areas: Adult Health Nursing; Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing; Critical Care Nursing; and Women's Health and Perinatal Nursing. Pediatric Nursing will be available in Spring 2016. The program provides a firm foundation in teaching/learning principles, curriculum/program development and evaluation, and methods to evaluate learning. The curriculum prepares graduates to assume the educator role with competence and confidence.
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is offered through a partnership with Austin Peay State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, and The University of Memphis.
The program is designed to offer didactic/theory courses online through the universities and to coordinate clinical study in each student's home area when possible. The partnership model allows the universities to share their most valuable resources to enrich program offerings. Classes are taught by faculty from all of the universities. Faculty members are recognized experts in their content area, regardless of institution of employment.
The Master of Science in Nursing program is fully accredited through fall 2019 by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Priority deadlines for admission are:
- October 15 - Spring admission
- February 15 - Summer admission
- June 15 - Fall admission
The Nursing Education concentration is designed for individuals who are interested in teaching as a faculty member in a pre-licensure program, providing continuing education for clinical staff or providing patient education. The Post Master's Certificate is a formal study program for individuals who already hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree or a Master of Science in another field of nursing. Students interested in pursuing a dual concentration are advised to pursue a Nursing Post Master's Certificate.
