Associate of Arts - AA
The purpose of the general education core is to ensure that college students have the broad knowledge and skills to become lifelong learners in a global community that will continue to change. The general education core courses emphasize a breadth of understanding and not a set of skills, techniques or procedures associated with a specific occupation or profession.
Chattanooga State, along with all institutions in The Tennessee Board of Regents System, share a common lower-division general education core curriculum of forty-one (41) semester hours for baccalaureate degrees and the Associate of Arts degree. Lower-division means freshman and sophomore courses. Upon completion of an AA degree, the requirements of the lower-division general education core will be complete and accepted by all public higher education (TBR and UT system schools) in the transfer process.
Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTP)
If you follow a Tennessee Transfer Path (TTP), the courses in your path will transfer to all TBR and most UT system schools as well as many private institutions. Visit http://www.tntransferpathway.org/ for more information. Most of the core courses (41 semester hours) and emphasis courses (19 semester hours or more depending upon the Transfer Pathway chosen) are available via online delivery.
This program is designed for students who intend to transfer to 4-year institutions of higher education to complete requirements for Bachelor of Arts degrees. Those students desiring to transfer upon completion of the Associate of Arts degree should consult an academic advisor and refer to the 4-year institution catalog before beginning a Tennessee Transfer Path program.
