Overview

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Elizabethton is located in mountainous Northeast Tennessee, along the banks of the Watauga River, within a short driving distance from the North Carolina and Virginia state lines. Elizabethton is the seventh largest among the 27 Colleges of Applied Technology operated by the Tennessee Board of Regents. It provides on-campus training to students from Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties and online programs to a much broader audience beyond its service area. Its mission is to provide world-class training in technology, and then to assist students in finding the best possible employment. 

Currently, TCAT Elizabethton offers training programs in Administrative Office Technology, Automotive Technology, Computer Information Technology, Diesel Powered Equipment Technology, Electricity-Electronics, HVAC/Refrigeration, Machine Tool Technology, Millwright/ Industrial Maintenance, Pipefitting and Plumbing, Practical Nursing and Welding. These programs may be completed in 12 to 20 months.

TCAT Elizabethton has a headcount enrollment of approximately 1,000 students, with an average of 32 years of age. In the 12-month period ending Aug. 31, 2014, the program completion rate at TCAT Elizabethton was 90%; the job placement rate was 88%; and the licensure pass rate was 92% on the Tennessee Board of Nursing exam. As the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton (TCAT) observed its 50th anniversary on October 1, 2015, success in the past has chartered a course for a bright future for its students and graduates.
