The online Course Developer Program (CDP) provides direct learning support, instruction and resources, as well as an incremental course development process to keep faculty developers on track and on time with their course development or redevelopment projects.
With CDP, TN eCampus embraces the performance support model of professional development. This approach has been shown to be more effective in providing the just-in-time support that our elearning professionals need day-to-day in a fast-paced and dynamic teaching and learning environment.
The performance support model further:
- Connects course developers with other learning professionals in a variety of formats and informal teaching and learning environments;
- Engages course developers with quality assurance strategies that include self and peer assessments;
- Affords course developers a unique perspective as online learners, a critical experience to their development as instructors and course developers;
- Models engaging learner-driven pedagogical strategies and instructional design approaches;
- Provides support, resources and opportunities for innovation needed in a fast-paced online environment where help can be as little as "10 seconds and 2 clicks" away when needed; and,
- Showcases the vast array of best practice, shared interests, and talents displayed by TBR elearning professionals.
What does it look like?
The CDP provides a holistic approach to performance support for course developers and includes:
- An asynchronous, fully-online course
focused on the course development process. The course will coincide with the commencement of work on the course development or redevelopment project. This will provide additional support for course developers while they work. - Mandatory Accessibility Training (online and in person in the regions)
- Access to an online community of practice that provides networking, camaraderie, peer learning and support, and a centralized communication hub for TN eCampus and TBR elearning professionals, and
- Attendance at the TN eCampus annual Summer Academy for face-to-face networking, learning opportunities, and support.
Program Features
- Each course developer is required to complete the program every time their course is redeveloped (currently a five-year cycle).
- Development work must be completed within six months from the commencement of training. Stipends are awarded only to those who meet participation requirements and all deadlines.
- Course development and teaching assignments will be reassigned if participation requirements and deadlines are not met.
- Provisions may be made for course developers who wish to complete the CDP course at an accelerated pace, or for those who wish to challenge out.
